General Description
Want a project planning tool with Gantt charts for your PC and don't want to
pay hundreds of dollars? If so then Plan for Windows is what you need!
Why pay hundreds of $ for an application, which has so many features that it
becomes difficult to use? Plan for Windows provides all the fundamental features
you need from a project planning tool for less than 10% of the price of other
commercially available PC based project planning tools.
Plan is a project planner which is similar
to, and compatible with, Microsoft Project. Plan for Windows is supported on
Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP based desktop PCs.
Plan for Windows can be used in various ways:
- As a viewer for Microsoft Project files - it can directly read and write
Microsoft Project files (MPP/MPD/MPX can be read, MPD/MPX can be written).
As an inexpensive alternative to Microsoft Project. Plan doesn't have all
the bells and whistles of Microsoft Project, but this makes it much easier to
use. This makes it a highly cost effective
alternative to Microsoft Project.
As a stand-alone project planning tool - it is a fully functional project
estimation tool. It supports creation and editing of project plans, including
recalculation of a project schedule.
Use in conjunction with Pocket Plan on a Pocket PC or Handheld PC. This
allows you to access and update your project plans anywhere - at your desktop
or in a meeting or anywhere else via your Pocket PC.

Plan for Windows is supplied
within a ZIP file. Extract the contents of this ZIP file to a
temporary directory on your PC and then run the setup.exe.
The user guide is supplied as a
PDF file installed with the software. Help is also accessible
from the application Help menu.
Also installed with the software will be a
sample plan file, accessible from the Windows Start menu.
Note: If using Plan
for Windows on the desktop and Pocket Plan on a Pocket/Handheld PC then make
sure you are using the latest versions of both products in order to ensure they
work together.
If using the product on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT
or 2000 and you want to open or save files in the MPD file format then the
Microsoft Data Access Components version 2.5 or greater must be installed (mdac_typ.exe). This
component is included as standard with Windows XP, but must be installed on
other versions of Windows.
Plan will function without MDAC, but when you
come to save or open an MPD file it will prompt you to install MDAC if it is
missing.
If you find that you need to install MDAC then
the version you need is version 2.5 service pack 3 and can be downloaded from
Microsoft website, click on this link:
